Q1: I was awarded Travel Support to attend an International Conference held in Washington during Oct. 2012. But, I could not attend the conference due to delay in getting Visa. Can I use the above support to attend another conference to be held in Jan 2013? A1: No. The support given to one event can not be used to attend another. The researcher need to apply afresh to seek funding for another event.
Q2: I have been given travel support to attend an International Conference in Guanzhou, China during Nov. 2012. Air India does operate directly to the destination. Can I go by Private Airlines which have direct connection from Delhi?A2: No. If Air India does not have direct flight, you should go to the nearest hub (in this case Hong Kong) by Air India, and beyond that you can avail the service of Private Airlines.
Q3: I have been recommended support to attend an International Conference to be held in Paris during Dec. 2012. I find the cost of travel by Air India is much higher than Private Airlines. Can I travel by Private Airlines as the cost is cheaper?A3: No. You should travel by Air India even if the cost is more and the Board will reimburse the Air fare.

Graduate Research Opportunities Worldwide (GROW) Program

The Graduate Research Opportunities Worldwide (GROW) program is a partnership between the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India and the National Science Foundation (NSF) to provide NSF Graduate Research Fellows with opportunities to enhance their professional development through research collaborations at top-caliber science and engineering research sites in India.


Objectives:

To promote research and capacity building in frontline areas of science and technology;
To pave way for the next generation scientists and technologists from the United States to interact with their Indian peers, thus helping to build long-term R&D linkages and collaborations; and,
To bring talented American students to research laboratories and academic institutions in India to build a deeper appreciation of the culture of innovation and long-standing tradition of scientific enquiry in India.


Eligibility:

Applicants should have completed at least one year of their graduate program at the time of application.
Applicants must be enrolled at U.S. institutions, making satisfactory progress towards their degrees, and have fulfilled all GRFP reporting requirements.
Open to MS - and Ph.D. seeking Fellows.

Note: Students would be short-listed by the National Science Foundation, following which the list would be shared with the Indian Partners.


Duration:

3-12 months


Fellowship Includes:

NSF provides a lump-sum amount to cover travel and other related costs
SERB provides monthly living allowance in INR

Responsibilities of the Host Indian University
Provide research-based experiences to the GROW Fellows.
Help arrange for on-campus accommodation at subsidized costs.
Mentor the GROW Fellows and integrate them into workgroups and activities
